Macey’s Doughnut Promos on Social Media
Macey’s is a chain of 12 stores located in Utah and are among the leading regional chains in the western US. Macey’s has been active the past couple of years in developing their social media presence.
This week’s Idea of the Week touches on some ideas from Macey’s promoting their bakery in social media and their website.
Donut of the month program
Many, many grocers have a “Doughnut of the month” program. Like other grocers Macey’s features a doughnut of the month on their website by showing a photo of the featured doughnut.
They include a paragraph describing the doughnut that is typically only available during the featured month.

Name that doughnut contest
Another great idea from Macey’s is their “Name that Doughnut!” contest which they promote on their FaceBook site.
Macey’s hosts daily dozen doughnut giveaways and one grand prize of free doughnuts for a year.

How do their customers enter?
Each day their customers look for the picture of one of Macey’s famous doughnuts and guess what kind of doughnut it is. They randomly pick a winner from the correct answers for a free dozen doughnuts from Macey’s Bakery each day. They post the new doughnut photos at 7 pm each day.

Macey’s also promotes their doughnuts on their Facebook site page by asking customers to finish a sentence:
“If I could have a lifetime supply of any Macey’s bakery item I would have ___________________.”
I got a chuckle from the first response to the “finish the sentence” which came from a customer who responded……………. “Diabetes, lol”.
