Corny Facebook Idea

Ideas to Get More “Facebook Likes” in June
You can have great Facebook posts in 7 minutes per week

Every week I get calls from retailers with questions about Facebook posts.

Common concerns are:

1. I don’t have anyone who can post on our store Facebook page.

2. It will take too long to have someone do this each week for my store.

3. I don’t know what good content is – aside from my weekly ad.

4. How do I get more Facebook followers and Facebook friends.

My answer:

1. You do have someone already on your staff that can do this.

2. You can have great Facebook posts each week in under 7 minutes per week.

3. There’s plenty of good content available – it’s easy to find.

4. You’ll get followers and friends if you provide interesting content.

If you have 7 minutes a week you can post content on your Facebook page!

8:00 am:  Went to my subscription on Social Octane and put in my sign on and password.  Clicked on “Banner Photos” and found a banner photo on fresh corn.  Timely picture so I clicked on the photo and it immediately went on my Facebook page.

8:02 am:  Then went to Social Octane tab for Facebook Posts.  Scrolled down the page and saw a recommended post on cooking corn on the cob.  I added the sentence :At Jim’s Foodland ” (a fictitious store) we love fresh corn on the cob.  Stop by to pick up some field fresh corn today and if you’re looking for a fun way to cook a couple dozen ears, click on this link”.  The Social Octane suggested post has the link it in already so all I had to do was to “click” to approve the posting.

8:05 am:  I googled “dog eating corn on the cob” and clicked on the first Youtube video.  Watched the video, laughed out loud .  Then clicked on “share” and copied the Youtube link.  Then went to my Facebook page and pasted the link on my Facebook post.

8:07 am:  I signed off and started working through 112 emails still sitting in my in basket.  Facebook posting is now done for the week.  If I can find 3 or 4 minutes later this week I’ll put up another Facebook post on fresh corn by “googling” topics like “eating corn on the cob.”

As you know, the purpose of your store’s Facebook page isn’t to get “Facebook Likes”. The purpose is to connect with your customers and become more “connected” with them. You’ll gain more followers though when you get more Facebook “Likes.”

Social Octane can save you time and money…..and Social Octane can give you ideas to help you “mine” additional content and posts for your Facebook site.

At 8:05 I googled “Dog eating corn on the cob” and found this video to post on my Facebook site.

Why did I google “dog eating corn on the cob” ?
The “Dog Lovers” Facebook page has over 3 million followers.
In 2013 siblings appealed for Facebook “Likes” to encourage their parents to get them a dog. They got 2.6 million “Likes.”
I found over 400 different videos of dogs eating corn on the cob…… and none of the dogs watched the etiquette video (3 videos down from this video).
So, put up a link to just one “dog eating corn on the cob “video -and you’ll see how many “Likes” you get in just a few days. I bet you get plenty of “thumbs up” , funny comments and “Facebook Likes” with a video of two unlikely topics :  corn on the cob and dogs.

At 8:07………I was done and was back to other work.  I spent a total of 7 minutes to get 2 posts and a new Facebook Banner Photo up on my Facebook site.  I’m sure you’re faster than I am at doing this but if you’re not —– and you’re twice as slow as I am, you’re looking at 15 minutes a week.  You have the talent, and you have the time to do this.

Although I already had 1 new Facebook post, 1 new Facebook video and 1 new Facebook banner in 7 minutes, I came back later in the week to spend another 10 minutes and found some additional posts to add…….
Getting Corn off the Cob- Quickly
I came across several videos you could post on your Facebook site showing some ingenious ways to get corn off the cob- quickly.
The first video (lots funnier than the second video) involves a cordless power drill. In fact, if you  google  “corn on the cob power drill”  you’ll find many other movie versions.  I just happened to like the chef’s cooking attire in the video below.

It took me another 40 seconds to find another video to post relating to corn on the cob.

At this point in the day I had a couple of minutes prior to a scheduled conference call so I googled” how to eat corn on the cob” and found several videos including the video that is below.

Etiquette:

How to politely eat corn on the cob

(give me a break Gloria, international Etiquette expert——– it’s corn on the cob)

OK, why not pose the question on your Facebook site….. “Should you  eat corn on the cob “up and down” the cob….. or “across the cob.”  Should you dip your face down to eat the corn on the cob or lift the ear of corn up to your mouth?   If you use a knife to cut kernels off the cob, where do you place your knife if you don’t have a bread plate.

All of these are critically important questions………. and, you could let your Facebook page viewers know that you’re providing a service to them by having the video clip on etiquette available to settle any family arguments about the most prim and proper way to chow down on a cob of corn at the next family BBQ.

I’m sure you’ll get some interesting responses on your Facebook page.

Before you watch this video, you should know that the the dog in the video (above) obviously didn’t watch the etiquette video.

Although Gloria believes you should eat the corn on the cob “up and down” but my research after watching about a dozen videos of dogs eating corn —- many of them prefer to eat corn across the cob vs up and down.

The final video I found shows how to cook corn on the cob and end up with no “silk” strings on the cob of corn.  Pretty neat idea the first time you watch the video and worth sharing.

This idea was pretty viral a couple of years ago and most everyone has seen it but put it up on your Facebook page and you’ll get plenty of comments and likes. Even those familiar with the video will give you a “thumbs up”, provide comments or pass it along to friends.
