Ideas to Help Grocers Exceed 2000 Facebook Likes

Ideas to Help Grocers Exceed 2,000 FaceBook “Likes”
How Can a Dog have 14,544,000 more “Likes” Than Your Site?
You Can Promote “National Dog Week” on Social Media

Most independent grocers FaceBook sites have less than 2,000 “Likes” . Many have less than 200 “Likes.”

Why?

Most independent grocers FaceBook sites are pretty boring, lack topics that are pertinent or interesting to consumers and are typically filled with ads and sales related posts.  So why would FaceBook viewers “Like” the site?

I’d suggest you go to your FaceBook site today.  Look at your last 6 FaceBook posts and think about these questions:

1. Of your last 6 FaceBook posts, are more than 1 of the posts promoting a sale or ad for your store?

2. Of the last 6 posts, how many of the 6 did you receive at least 1 comment? Was the comment(s) more than three words?

3. Are the Facebook site comments coming from your employees or from customers?  Do the comments include customers interacting with each other?

4. How many FaceBook “Likes” have you gained the past week?

The purpose of your FaceBook site is NOT to gather a bunch of “Likes”.  The purpose is to connect and communicate with your customers.  The best way to interact and communicate with your FaceBook viewers is to provide some interesting content that they can identify with and respond to.

Let’s help you get more FaceBook followers, more FaceBook “Likes” and more importantly, more interactions with your FaceBook followers.

Think of the topics that could help you connect with customers.

Food – sure, could stimulate comments and some interaction

Justin Bieber – nope

Politics – nope

Religion – nope

Sports – sometimes – could create friends and enemies

Dogs -Yep !

Did you know that “Dog” is included in among the top 10% of Google search ranks?  It’s been in the top 10% for the past 126 consecutive months.

Why not participate in National Dog Week on your FaceBook site?

Here’s a way you can introduce a very popular topic that is likely to get you both comments and “Likes” from your FaceBook viewers.  National Dog Week is the last week of September and you can promote it on your FaceBook page and it’s very likely you’ll get some interaction from current and new followers.

National Dog Week kicks off the last week of September so you have plenty of time to get socially connected with your customers and potential customers.  You have about 9 weeks to plan some promotions and you’ll be surprised at the level of interaction you’ll experience with promoting anything to do with pets and your customers.

Ask your customers to send you photos of their dogs for National Dog Week

Here’s some photos from a FaceBook contest requesting consumers to send in photos of their “Patriotic Dog”.  Hundreds of entries and lots of comments and interactions from FaceBook viewers.

Just ask your customers to send some “dog pix” and you’ll get a great response.  Offer a gift card to your store for dog food or dog treats and you’ll get even more responses.

Just ask your customers how they intend to celebrate National Dog Week and to send you their favorite dog photo.

You can sell items with proceeds to the local pet shelter

Mike Moon and his staff at Moon’s Hometown Market in Osawatomie, Kansas (hey Mike, I spelled it right!) , announced the arrival of these cupcakes in their store April 25th with a FaceBook announcement .

How about trying something like this during National Dog Week and offering the proceeds or a donation to the local animal shelter or dog rescue?

There are plenty of people who do NOT shop at your store regularly who may stop by for a dozen cupcakes to support your cause and just might see something in your store to cause a return trip.

Great idea Mike!

How about a “Wiener Dog” race in your parking lot?

Or how about a “woof of the week” during September?

Wiener Dog racing has been a popular event for decades.  Also, why not feature a “Woof of the Week” during September to help celebrate National Dog week?

Update:

“Double Your Email Database Challenge”- Current Leaderboard

Still plenty of time for your store to move ahead of those on our leaderboard for the three store groups in our contest.  We’ve got  Kansas, Wisconsin and Nebraska represented in the “top 3”  leaderboard.

We have stores in over 40 states so where are you California, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, Ohio, Michigan and the rest of the country?

You’re all within reach, keep driving to get more email addresses in your store database.

Check out the stores in the group that started the challenge with less than 250 email addresses. All three stores on that leaderboard are already doubling their database from where they began at the beginning of the challenge.

Two of the top 3 of these stores have added more email addresses than all stores in the other larger categories!  Great job Gene’s in Fort Scott and Eudora, Kansas!
