So… Did Your Store Have An ALS Ice Bucket Challenge This Week?
I was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana this week visiting with a food wholesaler and woke up from my hotel room Tuesday morning with a notice posted on my FaceBook site that my wife and I were both provided with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Our 3 year old granddaughter posted a FaceBook video challenge to us and as I sit at the Baton Rouge airport, the clock keeps ticking. I think my wife will be awaiting my arrival in Phoenix tonight with a bucket of ice water and a video camera. Who knows, maybe she’ll send an alert to someone in Dallas to meet me at my gate with a bucket of ice water.
By noon Tuesday a Louisiana retailer, Rouses Markets, was busy posting their ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on their Facebook Site.
The ALS campaign has grown beyond the “viral” stage and many grocers are getting involved and doing so they are becoming more relevant to their Generation Y and Generation X customers. They become more relevant to all their customers.
Be a part of the community, have some fun and donate to a worthy cause. That’s what the independent grocer is all about. Get involved.
It’s a worthy cause and a fun way to get your friends (and perhaps enemies) involved in something fun to watch and monitor on Social Media. If you haven’t been challenged, I’m sure you will be soon. Plan your own challenge and post it on your FaceBook site.
It’s time to get you, the store owner, the store manager, or perhaps your front end staff involved.
Why not put out a challenge to donate $1 for every “Like” you get with your store video of an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge? Be sure to first check with those who will be involved in the challenge as there are potential issues with ALS research, stem cell research and animal testing but I’m sure you can find volunteers within your store to participate in the challenge.
There are hundreds of grocers who are getting involved this ongoing event and why not benefit your community by donating $1 for every FaceBook “Like” ?
I’m sure each of you have participated, or know someone who has been challenged or participated in the ALS challenge so why not encourage your customers to provide you with movie clips that you can promote on your FaceBook site?
