Employee Spotlight: PAULINO!
What is your role at Media Solutions Corporation?
I am the Digital Signage Coordinator, so I am the one who helps our clients/stores with questions on how digital signage works, and I get the players programmed and shipped out to stores and conduct training on using the Digital Signage online management tools. But since I have been at MSC for about 3 years I have had a chance to work with and become familiar with all of our programs so I tend to help out in many different areas. MSC also sends me to many of the food shows each year to sample all the different foods that are available and while I am there, if I get some free time, I can also answer questions and do demonstrations for customers.
What would people never guess you do in your role at Media Solutions Corporation?
I don’t think I do anything unusual in my role unless you consider obnoxious whistling to be a role of mine. I think my daily routine can vary quite a bit though so I do enjoy that. Some days I am programming beacons/digital signage players or helping to troubleshoot different issues. Other times I am conducting GoToMeeting training sessions or helping new stores to get setup with our programs. I have also won the Least Valuable Employee of the Month Award twice so far this year, 3 more wins and I can break my record from last year, but Shane doesn’t think I can do it. (Just kidding, of course, on that Least Valuable Employee of the Month Award!)
Before working at Media Solutions Corporation, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Can’t really say that I had any unusual jobs before working at MSC. Most of my past jobs have been in tech support and troubleshooting though so it is kind of nice to have a job now where not every person contacting me is having a problem and is upset.
If you could pick one theme for Media Solutions Corporation to turn into a book about the company, what would it be?
Probably a book about how change is good. See my answer to the next question below ↓
How has Media Solutions Corporation helped you in your career development?
Working at MSC has really helped me to embrace change. Things have really changed quite a bit in the last 3 years – we have added new programs like Bright Aisle, ZOOM! Online Shopping, Digital Fusion and the new Solutions Center (coming soon). We have also moved into a new building and added lots of new employees. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to keep up with how quickly things can change but it keeps us on our toes and helps us to respond effectively to our customer’s needs. Also Nick and I are hoping the next change will be new computers so we are keeping our fingers crossed.
What has been your favorite project at Media Solutions Corporation?
Well since I am the Digital Signage Coordinator I believe I am under a contractual obligation to say digital signage. But hypothetically speaking if I was the Bright Aisle/Mobile App Coordinator that would be pretty cool. Learning about programming NFC cards and beacons and finding out how they work has been fun.
What’s different about working at Media Solutions Corporation opposed to other companies you’ve worked at before?
The free donuts and the really cool desks that move up and down so you can sit or stand while working are both really good. The big screen TV to employee ratio is much better than most other companies also, so it’s easy to catch up on some HULU or Sports Jeopardy when you are at lunch. I recommend “The Last Man on Earth,” great show.
What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?
That I need to do a much better job of taking care of myself now by eating better and exercising more. But those free donuts are just so good, and of course staring at pictures of food all day probably doesn’t help much either.
What is your least favorite food?
Hundred-year egg. This “food” is meant to be eaten on special occasions and used to celebrate holidays, weddings, etc. I had the chance to experience it the last Chinese New Year and usually am someone who will try anything once, but this is one food I can honestly say that I regret trying. It is so bad.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Hundred-year egg. Again, I can’t emphasis this enough, it is so bad.
If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?
“Meet Paulino” and it would have lots and lots of pictures and maybe some Sudoku puzzles at the end.
What music is on your iPhone/Android phone?
Well on my, um, Windows phone I don’t really have any music since I don’t listen to music very often. Usually I am listening to sports talk radio – the Dan Patrick Show, The Jim Rome Show or the local guys here in Phoenix, AZ. If I am listening to music it is usually something like SpecialThanks, Chocolate Chip Cookies, BABYMETAL, School Food Punishment or some other random and obscure Japanese groups.
