Grow your weekend business the next 7 weekends

Now that we’re in mid November, more and more of our “alternative channel” competitors begin running additional ads to draw weekend traffic to their stores.

There’s only so much expendable cash out there for food purchases during the holidays.  And this means that we risk having our customers visit our competitors more frequently on weekends in November and December as customers take advantage of special sale events if we don’t offer our own special sales events on the weekends.
So, we have to work even harder to get our customers to do 3 important things:
1. Stay in town.  Give them a reason to visit your store vs. leaving town.
2. Get them excited about a special sale in YOUR store this weekend.  Tell their friends, relatives and neighbors about something special happening in your store this weekend.
3. Make an extra trip to your store this week.  Fill up their food pantries before they start their other holiday related shopping.
This week’s Idea of the Week is very simple, very inexpensive and very effective.

FOR ONLY $25 !
             Durhams Weekend ad
Your Weekend Only eBlast program is perhaps the EASIEST way to reach out to your customers each weekend this Holiday Season.
Assuming you can use our 4 item Ad template, your total cost is just $25.  Do the math….. if your eBlast Weekend Only ad can draw just 10 customers to your store and each customer buys the FMI average weekly transaction size of $26.22 – you only need a 10% gross margin meld to fully fund the ad.  If you have 1000 email addresses in your database, expect 250 to 400 eBlast opens from your customers receiving your eBlast.
Weekend only Ads = $25
Now if you don’t care for our template design;  decide that you’d rather have 5 or 6 items vs our 4 items in the template…… or decide you want special coupons or other substantial changes to our templated ad design, your cost could rise up to a maximum of $75.
But think about it.  Whether it is $25 or $75, what else can you do to drive business to your store this weekend, allow your customers to forward the ad to their friends and….. have complete analytics on the performance of the weekend only ad.
Try it once and you’ll know that it’s such a small investment for a potentially huge return.

$25 a week template for a “Weekend Only” eBlast
EXAMPLE:
“I’d like to run a weekend ad using your BIG DEALS eBlast template……How do I get started?”

1.  Pick 4 items that you know will draw traffic to your store.  Don’t pick items that are already in your weekly ad – pick 4 new, special items for your eBlast Weekend Only Ad.

Call or email us with these 4 items.  One needs to be your “Feature” and the remaining 3 will be your sub features. Check out the template to the right.  Follow the template design and it’s only $25 a week – which includes your analytics.
2. Tell us the effective dates for this Weekend only ad.  Typically we see effective dates like:  “Prices good through closing time on Sunday, while supplies last.”  You determine when your sale is over.
3 We’ll send you a proof for your final approval prior to our emailing the special ad to your opt in customers.
4. Let us know of the time you want your eBlast to arrive in your customer’s email inboxes.
5.  After the ad has concluded, we’ll email you a link to your analytics for your weekend only ad.  You’ll know how successful the ad is shortly after the ad concludes.

Every Custom eBlast includes your performance analytics – emailed to you after the event

How many ads were sent out to customers?

In the above example, the store emailed out a total of 3622 eBlast Ads to their customers.

Only 14 customers didn’t receive the eBlast Ad.
9 of the email addresses “bounced” meaning that prior to the customer seeing the ad, the email processor diverted the ad. Another 5 ads were blocked by the email processor.
How many ads were viewed by customers?

In the above example, 894 ads were opened up by customers.

There may have been more ad views for this ad but customers who open up their eBlast ad after the ad is over aren’t counted —- it’s too late to benefit you since your ad is over.
You have 894 customers that were interested enough to open and view your eBlast ad.
What is success?

Your goal is to have 100% of your ads opened up but realistically you’re doing a great job if you can get between 20% and 35% open rates on your eBlast ads.

In the example above the ad was opened by 24.6% of the customers.
You’ll note a “264 clicked” statistic.  You can ignore this figure since the customer simply needs to view the ad, not click on a coupon or link.
